At Brighter Choice Charter Middle School for Boys, the faculty and staff ask of our students what we expect from ourselves. We believe that in order for a school culture to be truly positive, “discipline” must be something that comes from within. It is something that is worked at over time and not something that is “learned” for the moment to avoid punishment or gain reward.
To this end, our unique character campaign iChoose: Citizenship, Integrity, Perseverance, Scholarship supports this mission by containing a structure whereby students whose behavior models the above principles are praised with “gratitudes” while students whose behavior does not exhibit such qualities are given “opportunities” to reflect on their choices. Privileges and consequences are awarded in response to repeated behaviors.
By focusing on positive responses and self-directed behavior choices, we believe over time students will learn the value of making the right choice apart from any reward, developing character and supporting the growth of maturity in the process.
In addition to the above discipline framework, our uniform policy supports our goal of a positive, safe, and productive learning environment.
