In order to provide our students with quality instruction in a language other than English, we developed a Spanish program, scholars participate in a semester-long Spanish class. Foreign language, like the learning of one’s native language as a child, is best done in an authentic setting and at a pace appropriate to the learner. While vocabulary and grammar can be learned from a book, true proficiency develops only after one is immersed in the language and given the opportunity to use it regularly. Our Spanish program serves as the first step in this process.
